When I first got online (1998) the popular search engine was AltaVista, and content creators uploaded their work to GeoCities. Today, both are distant memories. In the greater scheme of things, how long will it be before YouTube goes the same way, and the content is lost?
I think Mr. T21 should do a detailed "for posterity" video of servicing each common chassis, and make some DVDs available. I've still got books by Lou Franklin that I've owned since I was a spotty teenager, and that was a long time ago!

AltaVista lol, remember that from somewhere in the past lol.
Back when you were lucky if you got 7kps if you were lucky on a 28k? modem and it took about 22 minutes to download one single track on the likes of Napster or Morpheus (allegedly..ahem, cough cough).

In those days of dial up... people were on the phone for hours up on hours, can you imagine how much money could have been made by the government I mean by BT if they had control of the home and mobile network for the whole of the UK

Off topic l know but seeing the posts about dial up internet, thinking about then l actually miss the routine of switching on the computer, listening to the old hard drive grinding away while it loaded up Windows 98, and then when settled down clicking on dial up and listening to the sound of the modem dialing and trying to contact and then the freeserve web page slowly loading.

I always wonder about hams that whinge about roger beeps and how they coped with dial up internet or morse code.
