Hi, I'm Ron & I have been kicking around radio, on & off, since the early 70's. I have not been active for many years but currently have a scanner on order, so I can listen to aircraft, maybe shipping & what ever else is around.
What is radio like now? Busy? Worth bothering with?
I was an active radio amateur between 1973 & the late 90's. I got involved in CB in the mid 70's & radio scanning since the mid 80's when I brought one of the very early scanners. I have also been involved in other areas of radio & built a few tube AM transmitters.

Re: Hello.
Lol.
All depends where you live re the 40 Muppet band justron.
Solar cycle is on the up so a AM FM side band rig like a CRT 6900/9900 , Alinco etc worth getting.
PMR 446 can be popular in places.
I'd definitely recommend getting a Baofeng UV5R, for around £25 they're a cracking bit of kit for the money.
I've programmed mine with PMR channels and ham repeaters, local business and local airport control tower etc.

Re: Hello.
Thanks. What are the bands to program for QSO's on VHF/UHF ? I know there used to be a few VHF/UHF frequencies worth monitoring for the chance of a QSO. But can't remember what they were.Tin soldier wrote: ↑27 Jan 2023, 08:25 Lol.

I know at one point if you were at the coast during the summer with appropriate kit, then late Friday/Saturday nights were a good time for some Dutch VHF/UHF QSO's.
