SS 3900F Frequency counter fault..
Hi Guys, As in title Iv a SS 3900F which seems to have two faulty green 7segment LED’s as there flashing/flickering, iv checked for dry joints, counter module looks all good etc, anything I’m missing to check? I’m thinking it’s the LED’s units themselves, has anyone a link or know where the correct ones can be purchased, had alook on the Bay can’t see the correct type..
Most grateful for any help

It's just typical 7-segment display.

Re: SS 3900F Frequency counter fault..
They're not the standard 16 pin LEDs. They might be the 10 pin ones that are used in the radios that have them built in. I've never had to remove these from the counter, so I'm not sure how easy a job it is. If you can get them out then you'll be able to test them. Just to add. You don't generally see flickering problems with LEDs , so it might be another issue. Normally they either work, or they don't. After all , they're just diodes.

Re: SS 3900F Frequency counter fault..
Is it not easier to replace the whole module?
I noticed on my Ronald that some parts of the digits weren't working.

Re: SS 3900F Frequency counter fault..
Just wanted to add something. I initially read this thread incorrectly. I thought it was regarding the external counter with the harness. I now see it was about the internal 3900F style one. Each of the segments are controlled by one of the wires off that long connector. First thing I'd try to do would be to disconnect that connector and light up each segment separately using an 8v supply. That way you can see if the led is faulty, or if it's something on the module that's causing it.
