An excellent explanation Craig.
And dont forget FT8 and now JS8Call were both designed to be used with very low power, so you dont need a big amplifier and big expensive HF radios.

I hope a few others will give it a try.
Why should the Hams just have all the fun.

one issue i've seen with js8call on CB is out of range broadcasts, using my airspy hf + loop so can set the bandwidth wide enough to see them.
just had one CQ at 3500Hz way out in the gray but get many just under 27.245MHz.

bought a president mckinley and hope to get an antenna up soon so i can take part but know if i use the radio to receive i'm going to be missing some peoples broadcasts.

i'm assuming ssb rx/tx is optimized for 2800Hz, do you think this is due to ignorance of the mode or people using cb equipment not designed for amateur radio modes.

Thanks for the positive feedback on my post everyone.

Seems that during my time away from the hobby JS8call has been a victim of its own success in that its attracted lots of new ops, but sadly a lot of them don't fully understand how it works or how to set it up properly. Attempts to establish good etiquette for users has sometimes fell on deaf ears, much to the frustration of established users who now find it difficult to work actual stations amongst all the automated replied etc etc.

Still I am hoping to get the McKinley back into service this week so we'll fire up JS8 and see what state we're in :)

73 all

with the recent great EU prop I thought it was worthwhile giving this post a little nudge.

I have had some nice contacts and QSO with people across Europe in these past few weeks and JS8 and its great to see a lot of new callsigns on there too.

73 to my fellow JS8Call users!

Its pretty cool to think that theoretically, I could send a message to myself, via the message relay function in JS8Call, which could circumnavigate the globe. :ugeek:
