Magnetic Loop or Cobweb...?
Hi...
I have limited scope for whatever I decide to go for ..
If I go for a Magnetic Loop this would have to be inside my garage into the roof space .. This would be my wife’s preferred set up as she won’t see it..
Alternatively I could possibly arrange a cobweb outside the back of the garage against some conifers and put it on a tilt mast for when I use it ... although I still would. It be able to use more than 10 foot high ...this is obviously my wife’s least favourite arrangement..
Any help and advice greatly appreciated.
Jason

Can you maybe install the wife in the Garage roofspace?
As for antenna, I must admit I have never used a loop before, I know that lots of SWLs swear by then though. I have just bought a 7 band cobweb and hope to get that on the house soon, will feedback my findings

Re: Magnetic Loop or Cobweb...?
.... I’ve never heard the end of the fact I told her about ten years ago I was putting up a small aerial in place of the old tv aerial... What I didn’t tell her was that as well as a little X30 I put up a gainmaster.. Her face when she came back from the shops.. .. ... So ten years later and it still is a topic that comes up regular... Jeeez never lets it go .. ..
Yea I would be interested in your findings on the cobweb Mr Weetabix...
Cheers

My trick is to install them on the side of the house that you can see from the back decking and that you dont really look up at from the front drive.... lol

Mag loop, crap.
Cobweb...crap..
look at it this way, is a serious DXer or contest station doesn't use them, there's usually a reason why..
if you want to enjoy your hobby, you need to go big or concentrate on one or two bands.

The op started with "I have limited scope", I dont think a Big-gun DX hunting station is what he had in mind.bigpimp347 wrote: ↑04 Mar 2021, 17:14 Mag loop, crap.

With that said, the idea of concentrating on one particular band is a good shout, but with the mention of using garage roof space the op might be restricted for space and therefore restricted to what size antenna he can put up.
Most of us in the UK live in houses with postage stamp-sized gardens, a compromise antenna is often as good as it gets.

Re: Magnetic Loop or Cobweb...?
Yes indeed... ‘Very limited scope’.... I know both are a compromise but that’s all i can do.... I limited myself by putting the Gainmaster up all those years ago... 10m was booming and it was just take your pick... Now it’s just a waste...
I really would like to get on other bands and make use of 20m and 40m... There are so many differing opinions with regards to both my proposed options..
I’m leaning towards the cobweb ... I can tell the wife it’s a back up washing line.. .. but the highest it will go is garage roof height.. So not really sure how that will work out..( for me not the wife )
Still would like to know how you get on ‘Weety’
Cheers

Re: Magnetic Loop or Cobweb...?
For 40m consider 1/4 GP. Buried or elevated radials. This antenna works as a charm and occupy limited space. Can be built in a few hours. I worked 302 DXCC with that simple antenna. On phone.

If you have any outdoor access for an antenna anything is better than indoors. Magloops are the last resort. If you can put anything outdoors then you got options.
