Silver President Robert and Richard

Post by cb4ever104 »

I wonder what the story with these 2 was. Couldn't President be arsed paying Uniden to make them a designated facia ? In the end they just took Superstar 360FM and 120FM facias , and put their little stickers over the names. Cheap , cheap , cheap

Thanks. But no need for the photos Claude. It was just a general comment on the fact that President were obviously too stingy to fork out a few extra $$s for a facia , or 2 :)

They probably got a good deal on stock that was sitting around at the factory. Just a little re-work to stick a few stickers on.... For the Richard they obviously did splash the cash for new fascias because there is the black Uniden version as well as silver and black Ranger versions. OK, I'll grant you that the silver Ranger version doesn't *actually* say President Richard on the fascia, just the approval badge on the back.

*Edit* Looking at Claude's post, the Robert was also available in black, so that reinforces the idea that President weren't too cheap to re-do the fascias.

Yeah. I was talking specifically about the silver Uniden boarded Richard and Robert. I know they stuck a plate on the back , but they could have forked out an extra 50c and put their own lettering on them. Still think they're cheap :)

Didn't the 120FM and 360FM appear in President Catalogues badged as a superstar?

I am pretty sure that I have seen it myself.

Always brings me back to thinking who , or what was "Superstar". I mean we have Dynascan Corp (Chicago) behind the Cobra brand . I'd love to know where all the Superstar money went to ....?

That is a good question. Just a generic brand name?

Might be , but someone , or somebody must have been behind it . Even looking at the owners manual . The 1st thing you see in the 148 manual is Dynascan and their address printed on the 1st page . However , If you have a look at the 360 and 360FM manuals you won't find any company info at all listed . I don't know ....

Maybe a name thought up by Uniden originally, so they could sell slightly illegal/export radios without their brand name on?

Maybe . But if it was Uniden , then I would have thought that they would have tried to make their own pcbs instead of paying Ranger to make them for the 3900s . That's assuming of course that it was the same "Superstar" company that made both 360FM and 3900 radios :)

All good fun Simon :)

That's an interesting letter Claude . So , it looks like Uniden were indeed behind the original 3900s .
