Gecol, Fidelity 1000 etc.
Anything from Moonraker or Eurosonic
Breaker 40FM, we had one passed on from a good friend and it was as deaf as a post.
I like My Uniden/ Audiolines.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Re: The worst UK FM rig ever?
I don't mind the Midland 2001/3001/4001 FM radios
I have used a few along with the Maxcom, Colt etc clones and there are far far worse rigs out there.
TX audio is pretty good, they are reliable and whilst they are not the best for Bleedover they are certainly not the worst.
The Maxcom 20E is the worst rig I have owned. In fact I have had two, the first rig I owned was a 20E and I bought another recently so that I could take off the rose tinted glasses.

Can only go by what i owned back in the day, a midland 2001, rotel 230 and a rotel 240
the 2 rotels were exellent boxes, so the poor midland takes the flag, having said that i
remember a guy who is no longer with us that had a dnt 40 fm, what a piece of junk
that was, it bled over everybody everywhere, apart from a few girls that had maxcom
20e's everybody else had rotels and harriers around here back then

Re: The worst UK FM rig ever?
Thats odd, I have had a m40fm since about 87 and nothing has beaten it yet. Including the radio's you put it against. You must of had a bad one. Or you didn't have one at all, you just heard a bad one on air by the sounds of things. I always get comments I'm booming out without any prompting. While others join the channel and get no such comments. It's the recieve I generally benchmark with though, and when something better comes along i will buy it. It's over 25 years now though, so I'm not holding my breath.M1JWR wrote:Can only go by what i owned back in the day, a midland 2001, rotel 230 and a rotel 240

Re: The worst UK FM rig ever?
There were some 'Supertuned' DNT m40fm's - which I hear are awesome... but the normal stock ones are pants. Maybe you got a 'Supertuned' one ? In fact, we used to joke that DNT stood for "Does Not Transmit" they were that bad.

Re: The worst UK FM rig ever?
I think most were supertuned Bob. The 1984 offering was pants, but by 87 it was gone. Not sure how much longer the model ran for though..
I won't fight in the brands corner, because components would litterally fall out the board on some models. The m40fm sure works though..
I have two here, and have had 5 more through my hands. Some with the green supertuned sticker but some without (perhaps peeled) But they all performed the same as far as i'm aware. Except the broken one i'm currantly working on (oh that let the side down!) lol

Re: The worst UK FM rig ever?
Harvard Good Buddy...no contest.
It had one big channel, slightly (and erratically) variable in 40 increments.
I was listening to a friends back in the day on the ch31 net and we could hear a
station calling "19 for a copy" giving us a 9+20 signal.
When we dropped down to ch19, where he was ACTUALLY calling, he was only s9.
