Sorry to say they are classed as old classics now, 15 - 20 years ago they were very popular and could be got at bargain prices, but radio and computer technology has moved on.. I got rid of mine when my 486 DOS programming computer gave up the ghost... Interest in the MT6000 and HT600 had waned to nil so I decided not to hang onto my old programming and servicing software and the sites where the software had been uploaded to just in case someone was interested have closed down or faded away..
It was good while it lasted..

I agree with you - as I stated, it was (it still is?) more of a fun project. Of course both worlds moved and are moving on - no questions asked (hello SDRs, hello accessible digital, hello Pi and daughterboards etc). I would ditch them if they were dead as a hardware - but they are not (including the batteries). Yes, probably not very useful, but good enough for some weekend fun. Hoped that somebody around might still have the old software somewhere "archived". If not, well, bad luck. :)

Side note & fun fact: two channels of the three (in total) that there were programmed on are either digital or modem transmissions, by the way they sound.

Ah, on the matter of sites - do you know some that had it? Might worth a shot on the web archive service.

Thanks!

Some sets were capable of scrambling, they were marked on the case front 'MASC'...
One site with the files was the HT600E Yahoo group.

Quick update: with the help of the software kindly provided by moj and my retro Acer laptop + cacheoff.com scripts, I was able to read the codeplug (I think that's how it's called) and validate it against the settings/frequencies the radios are programmed on. I'll check probably tomorrow if I can modify them and write them back. Nicey - thanks again, moj! Cable used is a cheap RS232 to whatever the Motorola connector it's called - no RIB.

So, writing works - managed to program a PMR frequency, just for fun. Now I need to check something - either config/software or something else: speaker does not close / SQL not working after receiving and ending transmission. It transmits fine, but remains opened (?this is how it's called) even after the receiving has ended.

Aaaah... Nope? Those are foreign language to me. I used only the PMR frequency to TX (RX on MT6000), without any additional codes...

That would be interesting - if you can spare the time. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, setting wise, since if I remove the antenna from the HT (meaning, probably, less parasitic stuff / noise), it opens properly on RX and closes after finishing. So it seems like it opens on RX and remains opened, due to some noise?!
