Re: Chasing ghosts mt6000e
So you finally have your cable then and I'm not sure and to be honest I just programmed it with all the pmr 446 channels but the battery wouldn't hold its charge so I never got chance to use them to there full capability , either way they were easy to edit from what i remember

Re: Chasing ghosts mt6000e
I don't think the GP580 does P25. The MTS2000 definitely doesn't (to my knowledge). Not sure about the MT6000e, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't. Regular trunking (I assume MPT1327) is not the same as P25. P25 is a very specific standard mainly used in the US, and is almost unheard of anywhere else.
If you want to run them in trunking mode you'll need a trunking controller, and a designated frequency. There was an experimental allocation on 70cm, but I don't think it's there anymore. That doesn't mean you can't set one up again, just that you'll be on your own. Also consider how you'd manage callsigns with numerical ID's, and channels. Trunking is designed to be used on designated networks, it won't play nicely on open channels with other users who are not affiliated to your system. Not impossible to overcome, but something to think about.
Also, remember some older Motorolas will only do wide deviation. You'll need narrow on 446 or you'll be more noticeable (in a Bad Way).

enjoy and get it quick
Would it be terribly wrong and a pain to ask again for it?
Thank you!

Re: Chasing ghosts mt6000e
Sorry I don't have the RSS any more, but you will need either the RSS for GP900-99 or MT6000E, a 486 or less DOS computer and a RIB cable..
Best of luck finding it..

Re: Chasing ghosts mt6000e
I know - I have the "standard" GP900 version and says it's incompatible / model not supported.
That's the least of my worries - it seems I already have the comms part with the radios setup.
Thanks, Mike!

Re: Chasing ghosts mt6000e
I found the most awkward bit was reading and writing to the MT6000E, Motorola never updated the RSS for Windows and my best results were Windows 3.1 on a 386. The MT6000E came in 2 flavours, MT6000E and MT6000E MASC, the only difference apart from the encryption key was the label on the front face cover and the internal plug in MASC board..
When the different Police Services got rid of their MT6000E's they could be purchased for about £5 each, batteries for £1 and chargers from £5..
They were easily cloned without overwriting the tuning settings, could be set up for 25KHz or 12.5KHz use on the same radio.
Sadly I cleared most of mine out a few years back when my 386 laptop gave up the ghost and it made sense to replace the radios with cheap Chinese models.
New batteries are available for the 6000E but now cost an arm and a leg..

Re: Chasing ghosts mt6000e
Well, I grabbed a lot of 6 around two years ago - for around £10, for the pack. All in working order, but programmed to a commercial/leased frequency, I guess. Just as a thing to play with (I'm not a HAM operator - yet ; but I do enjoy a bit of tinkering with old hardware, coming from an IT/software side ). Including some extra batteries, 6 slots desktop charger and such.
My smart-charger charged some 7 batteries with 1-1.2A (capacity) or so. They seem to be in order, for now. They are all original NiCd type ones. I have 4 NiMh replacements (non-Motorola), but I haven't tested them.
I have never programmed any pro handheld radio (ok, played with CHIRP and baofeng - but that's not challenging/funny enough) - so I took it as a weekend challenge. I've read about the timing problems for the serial communications on newer CPUs - I will take that into account if I get the proper RSS and fail with timeouts and such. For now, as I stated above, I've floppy-booted to a MSDOS environment and ran a GP900 version of RSS - only to find out model is not supported. Confirming, from my point of view, that at least some info has been exchanged between my laptop and the handheld.

Re: Chasing ghosts mt6000e
Not sure on the dates, but here is a BIG website with nearly all the legacy radio information you will ever need, have a read through the Motorola Batwing section for the RSS history:
