Advice on Best Drill to use to drill hole for SO239 mount.

Post by WeatherWatcher »

Ok I need to drill a hole in my car roof to fit a mount for my dualband antenna. Have found nothing in the way like ribs or wiring under the head lining but now need to purchase a drill bit 16mm dia for the one hole- what would people recommend?
Because it is almost centre of the roof longitudanally should be OK. I know about the getting a good earth bit and cleaning any burrs off the edge of the hole. Any other advice welcome.

If you have this type i think they need a 12mm DV connector hole http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/fixed-body ... t-kit.html

Check u have around 35mm space between head lining and roof .

Q-max would be my preference, assuming a very low crown panel as, by the very nature of the way it works, it could locally distort any curved panel.

An ideal way of cutting accurate, clean, holes.

Place duct tape over the head liner so it doesn't bunch up and rip / shred. I used these drill bits.

When I did this to my Landrover I found the roof panel to be too flexible so added a sheet of aluminium underneath large enough to tuck under the nearest support rib that ran over the roof. This meant sourcing an SO239 mount that had a longer threaded section.
my friend grafter, seems like you are using a very offensive tone in the reply.
