Most likely DMR dont think many Prisons use Tetra Airwave unless they are doing prisoner transport.

Not sure about Cardiff: there are some Prisons in Bristol, Bedford and Manchester areas that are on TETRA. I think these guys provided them: http://www.pmr-products.com/ They tend to be 450-453Mhz band.

The many local to me are all TETRA now. I doubt DMR would be of use to them here when they have access to TETRA set ups.

Yes looks like PMR-Products have the contract for HMP untill November 2015 providing a DMR network called SafetyNet.
DMR is much cheaper than Tetra Airwave so makes sense they only need a Airwave terminal when moving a high security prisoner so they can contact police escort/back up.

Strange, all 3 here which are local to me are Tetra. Must have got 'um cheap before they swap to 4G under CC/Aquiva.

YMMV

The few prisons in Kent that I've worked in are using Tetra. Just because it's Tetra it doesn't mean it's Airwave remember. They are around 450MHz IIRC. They use Rohill Nodes & Sepura handsets.

cardiff have a 2 frequency TETRA system- mix of clear and encrypted

Usk Borstal has TETRA

Prescoed - no idea but probably works on Usk's system

all in the old 450-453 band
