Amateurs using 446mhz
Maybe there is a problem with amateur frequencies around here, they are not exactly overloaded but some from the Saltcoats or Stevenston area seem to want to bore us with amateur talk on 446 channel 1, kicking out several watts in the process.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. He's doing you no harm. Heard 3 local amateurs near me on PMR this evening. Good on them

Why not?
After all, if they are free for all then that includes amateurs.

Yes it is a non licenced section but there is still rules that I'm sure are not being followed.
I doubt for 1 minute that they are using 0.5w for a start.
I personally don't have an issue but please remember the handhelds on this part of the band are commonly marketed for young kids and as such you have a lot of young kids who can be playing with there pals and all sorts of stuff come blasting over.
As said I've no problem with amateurs using it but up this area it's more like a free for all with all sorts of words being broadcast.
If you are going to stick 20w through on this band and especially on ch1 remember that there will be a large amount of kids who can hear you and keep the language clean.

Re: Amateurs using 446mhz
if some folk cant conduct themselves properly on air and blast the f*** and c*** words while using 20w on a base radio that's there issue, im not the band police and all that happens when challenged is more abuse directed to whoever has tried to point out the issue to them.
all im asking anyone using pmr446 is remember young kids will have radios on these frequencies so have a little respect.

Re: Amateurs using 446mhz
I kind of agree, i'm a parent to so also don't enjoy to see this. However part of being a parent if you bring your kids up using radios is to explain such idiots and what to ignore - same as you do when they get freedom to use the Xbox live/internet in general. Also giving them a half decent 446 set and teaching them how to look after it is even better. I've never had anybody break through our net when using a DCS code - just get nagged that they can't hear their friends nasty CSQ only sets...

Re: Amateurs using 446mhz
Just a query - how did you know they were amateurs? Did they give their amateur radio call signs? If so, why not report them to Ofcom?

Talking about 2 metres / 70cms / top band / dipoles / propogation etc is a bit of clue. They don't use callsigns, just names.

Re: Amateurs using 446mhz
Gone a bit quiet since I mentioned this. Warren from Saltcoats / Stevenston seems to have gone. Funny how these people supposedly pay to use amateur bands, yet fire out all that power on a 446, wiping out a care home.
