Remove the shorting board from TP 7, 8 and 9, see if the receive comes back on SSB.

Good morning Zephyr,
Thank you for your interest for my problem.
Removing shorting board no change the receive on SSB.
BUT, bad solder under TR 19 , now it's OK
Many thanks

Glad you got it sorted.

The PC-999 Grant is probably my favorite Multimode set. 8)

I have had three of them, and would certainly have another.

A better radio than the Cobra 148/SS360 In my opinion, the only thing they lack is a decent KC shift.

Both mine have the MC145106 PLL fitted with a PIC and zero switching with 5 bands and I only need about 3KC's total shift to get everything I need.
I've had loads of 148's and 360FM radios but I would rather have the Grant 999 any day even over a Jackson, they have too much shift for me.
Oh and both have the 3900 counter fitted to them and switchable tone on the receive.

I have the silver fronted Grant modded with five bands
10 kHz switch on the mod button ,the brite switch does nowt.
The clarifier has been unlocked and does about 6khz up and 3-4 kHz down so to get the zeros I go a channel down and slide up.
It is my mainstay radio that I use all the time.
Fantastic receiver ,but does tailor off a little on the low channels of super low.
I wouldn't be without mine, fantastic audio reports too, perhaps a bit to much as a power mic ain't needed and over drives dramatically ,so I use the standard coffin mic.
One gripe is too much power output for my linear...
There is a variable power pot fitted to the rear that works on am/fm only.
All in all a brilliant buy off a fellow forum member.
I gotta a decal off Simon (cheers mate) and I'm going to pimp it in a nice electric blue colour when I get round to it.
Is the other Grant just as good ...the one with the fine/coarse control.
I like it as much as my mint mk2 cobra 148.
A classic radio IMHO .
Regards Coppernob Roger.

The Grant with the Dual clarifier works just the same, the only thing is the dual clarifier is a bit pointless as standard as it doesn't slide much.

I shouldn't really have sold my black one. It worked well, but was a bit worn.

I replaced it with a Mint Mk2 360FM, but like I said it doesn't seem to perform quite as well.

George,
I'm still waiting for the engraver to finish the front, the last time I called in he had done the GRANT 999 DZ but that was all.
I think maybe I should have bitten the bullet and shelled out the £100 to have it done by the chap that did the last one for me but I re-anodised the knobs and the handle brackets today and they look great.

Do you have audio, I mean Hiss from the speaker on SSB but just no RX or no signal and no Audio..Have you hooked up a sig-gen or another radio to use as a sig-gen to see if there is any Recive at all.. ?

As you say its only SSB receive thats gone down.. then i would assume that when you turn the volume up fully you should have some audio ( Hiss ) .... Could you elaborate a bit more... Thanks
