Cobra 148 fake?

Post by Avenger »

I remember coming across this terminology many times in the 90's with mic wiring diagrams + roger bleep fitting instructions ect, i was told it was a cybernet boarded rig branded as a cobra and always assumed it meant the cobra 150gtl + equivalent superstar 2000 model but was it? or was there a 148 as we all know with a cybernet board in there.

There is a Cybernet boarded rig badged as a Cobra 148. It came in a pink box.

There was a thread on this a while ago so maybe someone can post a link. If I remember rightly it resembled a Rotel RVC 240 ?

the 148GTL-DX fake is actually a Rotel 240 looking radio, based on a Nato 2000 type board..
it's only classed as a fake because anything in america thats not uniden is fake..!!

i don't believe it's fake as i have a Cobra 148 GTL-B which is also Cybernet and is a 40ch which looks like a superstar 2000,
also the Cobra 150 is it a fake cobra because it's a cybernet,
bear in mind cobra was just a brand name and didn't build anything,
so quite possibly they had Cybernet as well as Maxon manufacture radios for them, but the market was greater in the Uniden boarded radios.

Probably worth hell of a lot more than a Uniden-boarded Cobra though :)

No arguing here . I'm just wondering how a cybernet owner actually knows he has a cybernet radio when you can't see the pcb number with all those wires ? :)

I imagined a rig looking like a dynascan 148 but with different internals hence it being called the fake whereas that doesn't look anything like the 148.it has very similar controls the the superstar 2000 I've got here.

the 148 fake is...
a Colt 2400..
Midland Alan 88S

and uses the same insides as a Nato 2000, Tristar 797, 848, and many more..

as i say who say's it's fake, maybe cybernet did a few for cobra and they didn't sell as well in the US as the uniden versions..
or maybe thats cobra's export version for the EU ??

There is no point in arguing with a Cybernet lover. He will drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.

I suppose it all comes down to personal preference with the old cybernet/uniden discussion, I've got a few of each in my collection and like them for what they are, however back in the day when it was busy + bleedover was an issue the best 2 rigs I ever had was a superstar360 and an old midland powermax which was a mid rig but converted to a uk40,serial no plate on the back was dated like the old midland's were + read made in Holland.I see the cobraworxshopz are not to popular on here!
