Preventing unauthorized use of my radios

Post by geekyninja »

So just wondering with one of the mock questions it was along the lines of "how do i prevent unauthorized use of my radio equipment". Do i need to really do this if its at home or do i go for the one socket that is connected to one them emergency stop switches with a key to release the switch. (Sorry i just think it be cool to have it labelled as press in the event of lack of strongbow). I am half feeling the latte but i just wanted to see if others do it and how they do it.

My understanding is that if someone without a license (other than member of user services) wishes to use your station, you say no..... You don't need padlocks or the like.

You can't supervise unlicensed people on foundation conditions either

Edit, you do have the 'foundation now' book yes?

I have got my foundation book already and on some the mock exams getting 18 out of 26 which is not to bad as it thinks it should be a pass. Just where i been ill i not looked at the book  Dam the common cold. I got my exam on 23rd. It's more i know at home im ok but if i leave a handheld at my other half i got to remove the battery, put it in a safe, followed by a second safe, big alarm, guards, more guards just to stop it being used. Oh little sisters never make things easy.

18 out of 26 is ok have you been using hamtests to do the mocks as its a good site.
And once you go and take your course that score will go up a lot only thing that was a problem was morse apreciation as i couldnt process the dits and dots due to my problems but i even passed it.
And no making radio safe is just make sure no-one uses your radio maybe just remove the mics when you are not there or disconnect the radios and put them in your pants draw :D.
or failing that a bengal tiger or landmine in your room would also do

i was using hamtests and at times i found some times you get 4 answers and no questions. what normally catches me is when a question has 4 answers with very little in them. The call sign questions i know i got to look at as if i get a different part of the uk one i am having issues.

This'll either boost your confidence or make you feel terrible...

http://www.southgatearc.org/news/april2 ... n_exam.htm

You'll be fine! I managed it when I was 13 - dropped two marks, both were quite ambiguous, with more than one correct answer, just wasn't what the examiner wanted. :-(
I wasn't aware of these online tests.

Good luck!

Does the Icom FC-510 have variable power output ?

That's kewl. I had looked at them before but never managed to find out what power options it had so decided not to, Cheers for that :-)

The IC-F510 can be password protected, I'd suggest using that if you're worried. ;)
