All uk emergency services use tetra handhelds, FIRE - AMBULANCE - POLICE, COASTGUARDS- RESCUE HELICOPTERS ( air ambulance & police also). The fire service may have had a ems paramedic onboard and was closer than the ambulance to you so they called in to see whats wrong whilst the road ambulance was on route. :)

Yep, ALL emergency services across the UK have gone digital... but Firecrest is right, the Fire unit may have had a paramedic on board, hence the reason they called in first.... they may have heard the call on a group channel.

The fire service do of course still retain the use of analogue handsets for on-scene use. Frequencies are:

457.0375 Channel 1
457.0875 Channel 2
457.0125 Channel 3
457.1875 Channel 4
457.1375 Channel 5
457.2375 Channel 6
73 & 88
