Joe 'Slip Ring' - a friend of my father's in the 1980s who was a CB user and also a fully qualified Class A Amateur Radio licence holder.

He was a retired school teacher who lived in a bungalow, and my father used to pick me up from primary school in the summer and we'd go to his house to check out his radio kit. He had it all, even 'new fangled' SSTV on 2m & 70cm and an impressive array of kit - notably a brand new Yeasu FT-One.

If it wasn't for this guy, I would never have had an interest in radio or become a member and eventual moderator of this hallowed forum.

I wish he was still around, as he'd be made up at me getting my own Ham ticket.

RIP.

I miss my old friend Alan 'Hawkind' from Cardiff, A proper hippy stuck in the 60's. He sadly died then his son Richard 'Whitsnake' died a couple years later in his mid 20's.

Both sadly missed
