I think you mean 360 but ok, I am not sure why you are asking about to short out a diode, Cannot see how this will help regarding a lazy needle..Lazy on what TX or Receive ?

I moved in march, I have done loads n loads of 148/360's over the years and never heard of shorting a diode for lazy needle before :? , As for the 120 thats a different matter as it a different fault and board.

good point raised compared to what ??

cybernets have very active needles, unidens always seem lazy, mainly due to their filtering and quality build.

if you mean you 9db on one rig and only 3db on the cobra then adjust the VR
but do you mean it's lazy, or it's deaf ??
can you hear equally on another rig ??

you want to try a Kenwood on CB, everyone gives you 60db, and with RF or ATT used it's the same..
even 50 mile away is 30db ++

never tried shorting diodes,
d8 on the 010 feeds the agc voltage to the front end protection diodes and other if stages to reduce rx gain with strong signals,
removing/ switching out d8 turns agc off and stops the s-meter working, turning agc off and reducing rf gain makes am stations sound more dynamic but i would not short d8 to get a little more movement on the meter,

i remeber simon at taddy doing a mod where he increased the injection level of the 10.240 signal into the mixer to make 148 and stalker meters act more like a grant with low level signals,

a good alignment and meter set just to the end of the red on your strongest local is usually all that is needed ;)

If your only receiving locals on a small amount of signal then i dont think its a case of just a lazy needle.

But what are you comparing it to.....??
How local are they....??
So are you saying that you recieve the same person at the same signal on both radio's.....????......if so, maybe you should check your antenna.

I just got a mk 1 ss360 and found the mod for shorting d7 or d8 i chose d8 it worked a treat but had to lower the readings back a bit using the vr 1 trimmer. I have seen this mod a load of times over the years but where i dont know. Midnight express rings a bell tho. As for what the diode is supposed to do I dont know. I will have a look at my diagram but will probably not be any better off :? . I dont think this mod works for mk2 cobra148/ss360 as it was listed only for mk 1.
