Yaesu FT897 odd signal meter problem

Post by 2E1HJE »

When I have my Yaesu FT897 on 70cm I notice odd signal strength readings.

I have a few local repeaters that I receive at 5&9+50 (2 of) and one that I receive at 5&9+30.

When I turn the radio on and its warming up the signals show up as 5&7 or 5&5 for a second or two then flick up to 5&9+50 etc.

Is this normal?
It doesn't happen on 2m and I can't see that I've changed any settings so I'm a little confused.

Well the shop say that they want it back to have a look at but I've made a video of it as it is only intermittent.

* yes I know I was naughty accessing the repeaters but it was the only reliable way of testing.

Cheers.
I've just come off of the phone to Yaesu UK and they think it could be a relay or a PLL not working correctly when cold.

It's off to Waters & Stanton soon for them to have a look at it.
