The Baofeng Thread

Post by Agent 48 »

Lots of nice looking colorful Boafeng radios coming onto the market recently.

I know they are cheap and cheerful and not every bodies cup of tea but I like them. I want to get a yellow one but found these ones that come in Orange, green and grey.

They are nice looking radios. I quite fancy the orange one as a Marine Band radio for when I'm on the Thames, they are said to be IP rated and have good audio on them I also like the grey one so I'm going to buy both.

They do work well and are good for newcomers, however they are prone to overload and essentially the inside is all the same chip, so expect near identical RF performance from almost all of them.

They can change the case and add menu features, ect but underneath it is essentially the same set. It's like a vehicle with a different body but inside the engine is the same.

Wow ordered the grey one yesterday and it arrived today... I wasn't expecting it to arrive that quickly... Audio is really nice, nice quality sound not tinny at all, and built solid and color screen looks nice. Buttons feel OK. I think I'm going to order the Orange one next.

I don't understand why other brands like icom, and others alike can't make interesting looking radios that look appealing and come in colors instead of the usual bland black boring radios they'd also sell more. You make something look nice and interesting there will be more people buying.

The Icom ID-51 series has pretty colors but sadly the ID-52 doesn't.

Not a fan of the ID-51 handhelds, just the overal design isn't something that stands out to me but I like the icom IC-7200. Thats not a bad looking radio, not a huge fan of the camo color but a nice design, I think it would look better with a desert camo color or just plain grey or army green or white. Nice radio I wouldn't mind having one.

I think Baofeng certainly has the right idea with the overall design look of the radio and the colors work well with the design.

It could actually be a fun project, painting a radio like this, and it makes it more unique, your own.
