Hi
I wondered if anyone here has an interest in packet?
I've bought a couple of old packet TNCs and have been dabbling in Direwolf for the last couple of months but yet to make a contact.
I'm receiving / seeing a couple of nodes, I can receive them OK but can't seem to connect to them.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if it's my aerial system or my location which is the problem.
I maybe just need to chat about packet to someone who knows more about the subject than I do.
Any help much appreciated
Thanks
Neil

Tell me what you know about it? I'm a noob, so haven't a clue, but it sounds interesting.

Re: Anybody here interested in packet radio?
frequency and baud rate of packet might help get more interaction Neil

Re: Anybody here interested in packet radio?
Hi
Thanks for the replies, sorry I'm late getting back, yeah I'm useless.
I've been caught up with other thing for the last couple of weeks.
Anyway I've decided my problem is my antenna so I'm going to upgrade my VHF, UHF antenna.
My wife bought me (at my request), a Diamond V-2000 for my birthday.
I'm also going to get it much higher than the comet I'm currently using, I've got a four section mast I bought second hand ages ago, It's going to need guying so I've been buying all the bits and pieces to do that.
I'll let you know how that goes.
The node I'm trying to connect to is about 18 miles away so hopefully the new antenna will allow me to connect.

I have heard people talking about packet radio recently on 2 meters not something I've ever tried, it was before my time but sounds interesting.

Re: Anybody here interested in packet radio?
You should have no issues accessing it from 18 miles away on a V-2000 even on the comet you should get it unless you live in a basement or have a huge hill in the way?Strawberry wrote: ↑02 Dec 2024, 23:52 Hi

Re: Anybody here interested in packet radio?
I used packet in the 1980s/90s, ,I can't remember the correct name of that TNC I think it was called something like a Tiny 2,,I must get it out of the loft and check that I removed the battery from it all those years ago.It was good fun back then.
If the problen cant be sorted with a "LUMP-HAMMER" then its most likely to be an Electrical fault
