Midland M42 solder pads

Hi All

A Camper van friend of mine (parallel hobby) whose family are obsessed with "stranger things" on Netflix is putting together
some CB radios for festival comms (hes doing up his T25 camper to look like the pizza van) .

Whilst he and his kids are happy to use the realistic CBs featured in the series - his missus fees very self conscious and doesnt
want to walk around with a 50" telescopic antenna!

So he bought her a midland 42 from ebay. Which didnt work. so he passed it to me on a "It was sold as seen mate so
can you have a look into it ?" basis.

Well it seem that there are 3 versions of the midland 42!

the M42 - PR27GB - which he has
the M42 Multi
The M42 Multi DS

and the M42 - PR27GB has different solder pads to the later 2 versions:

I guess CH9 CH19 is the default power on channel which would be good to change away from 9

The only thing I can think of A/F is AM/FM - didnt think this set supported AM ~? only the later models ?

It looks like these have been reflowed in the past by the amount of visible flux on the board - I assume these are the correct links for this set
as its switching UK/EU ??

what is ICR please and is there any links to further documentation on this original model as its taken me ages to do this without a service manual

well, thus far I can confirm that :

The A/F link seems to do nothing
the i CR link also seems to do nothing
But the 4 remaining links affect the action of the channel 9 button :

(Where X = soldered north south and O = open)

X X O O
CH9 CH19 = emergency button selects channel 9 ( pointless these days)

OO X X
CH9 CH19 = emergency button goes to channel 19 (moderately useful !! Think I will leave it like that)

will continue poking and see what comes out of it !

you must change the setting to

the channels are 40 in the ranges from A to L you change as before starting from A1 to L40 using the channel change buttons under the transmit button



1 - the jumper is closed
0 - the jumper is open

Why not get her to buy an early 80's handheld instead and stick a rubber duck on it instead of using the telescopic one? It'll at least look a bit more similar in style to the large "Stranger Things" ones.
