Is that the one they claimed is 5/8 wave?....well its not 5/8wave..if you NEED a 14 feet antenna then that's good ,,,but just because it says 5/8 wave on the box don't expect it to behave like one
you cannot electrically shorten an antenna and expect it to work better no matter what wave that they print on the box... its like expecting a car antenna with a coil at 5 or 6 feet long thats claimed to be a 5/8 or 7/8 or whatever to work better than a 9 feet whip..its not going to hapern
I believe the fiberglass 1/2 wave they sell is a similar price at 18 feet it will work better

It would be more accurately described as a 3/8 wave.

Personally I don't really see the point of it.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Literally no point in getting any other antenna than this, almost 1/2 the price and will probably work slightly better.

https://www.radioworld.co.uk/sirio_gps2 ... silver_rod

Thunderpole 5 - 9.9dB gain is 100pct total BS... companies suggesting such figures should be boycotted.

That is a negative gain antenna, if such thing can exist.... read: lossy antenna... think -1dB - it is not even a 1/2 wave if it is 14 feet (it says 18feet in the website but with 9.9dB gain - anything written there cannot be trusted) !

14 feet is a different antenna... it gets worse they call it a 5/8 wave... which would be closer to 6.6m long and it is 4.35m
it's all a load of cobblers.

https://www.thunderpole.co.uk/base-cb-a ... -wave.html

I would still just get the Sirio 1/2 wave GPS.... unless you have heard some wind/storm survival suitability of the Thunderpole which would be the only reason to get one. Otherwise it will be outperformed slightly by the Sirio.

It is time trades description did something about this to be honest.

It’s the Thunderpole 5 antenna as opposed to the Thunderpole Galaxy, but yes 14 foot overal height and just won’t tune a low swr enough to cover 28.5 mhz despite the top whip being cut to the suggested size.

Probably well off here as I don't know the antenna personally but After some issues with a mobile and base antenna this may be worth a try.

Had high swr on both wouldn't drop to where I knew it should and a friend with knowledge said add different lengths of coax .I did this tried few different lengths in the end I think It was about 3' well blow me over not only did it drop to 1.1 where I wanted it will now work under 1.2 from 25,600 to over 29 mhz and that's inline with kl 203 3 watts input.
Alinco dx 10 .radios meter and matched same in my separate swr power meter.

Antenna the infamous antron 99.
Worked simular on a sirio mobile antenna too, dropped several needle thicknesses on meter with extra 6" coax.

That’s great, plan is to change location for the vertical anyway so will require a different length of coax anyway so will see what happens. Thanks .

Okay thanks strange one as I say thought it would be a lot enough swr going by the cutting chart but as I say 27mhz fine but doesn’t want to play on 10mtrs !!
