No, a lot on here are old school and CB Radio back in the 70's and 80's was our social media where you could chat to guys and lady breakers, if you were in the know you were on AM CB and then FM came along in 1981.
Still have a few friends from back then, though most are now silent key or on Ham radio or moved onto other things etc.
So not really a billy no mates reason, sadly though, today CB is very much a quiet hobby, but with the Sunspots increasing the DXers on SSB are coming out of the woodwork, well really they were just lurking in the shadows.
And now the internet and Facebook is where we lurk or on Forums like this one.
OR MAYBE, WAIT! OH NO Im now a billy no-mates :D :D :D
How did that happen, God im getting old!

I got into radio because of friends. It started in the early 70's with homemade transmitters, then late 70's CB arrived via custom car clubs, all my mates had one, then I made a shed load of new friends thanks to radio. I still speak to the same people on the radio now even after 40 odd years, though some have gone their own ways and lost touch. But tbh, I found it a great way to make new friends.
The perfect face for radio.

Like a 70's theme on here! Platform shoes, flares and disco music by any chance? Can you dig it?

Started for me on the cb in the late 70s , Had them for years , Work, wife and children came along but still dabbled through the years but time ran out, Even though time is scarce through my hobbies , Motorcycles, cycles, fishing, shooting, walking and as much snooker as I can play plus the dogs keeps me busy on my days off from work, Now nearing 55 years old I find my interests are slowly changing and im enjoying the radios more , After passing my foundation last year I'm starting to realise how wide this hobby is, To have a couple of radios on different bands with the kettle by the side just fits in nicely, My gunroom will soon be sorted and thinned out and will become my radio room, Over this weekend I'll be sorting access for the coax and hopefully have the radios set up over the next week or two. Hopefully

I was too poor when the CB rage came about when I was young,
that hasn't changed much, still, am looking forward to getting a radio and getting online.
