EMarkM wrote: 04 May 2022, 09:00 I was 51 a few days ago (huzzah!) and one of my lovely gifts was a brand new Thunderpole T-800 for the Jimny.

Not had the chance to play much just yet, but, my goodness, it's good!

Far better reception than the handheld (see signature) which until now had been my only 11m set. And the audio - crystal, crystal clear.

I'm picking up far more local activity with no other changes to setup - TP medium or large springers on a 7" magmount - this radio really is going to be the business.

I know I could have spent more and gone with something that had SSB too, but, honestly, I'm more than happy with the UK FM 40 and EU AM 40.

Very, very pleased!

I know you may be trying to keep the 4x4 look with the Springers, but swapping to a larger Sirio 3/4/5000 will mean you'll get even better reception, so long as you don't mind a 6ft+ whip bouncing around :) You may get a 10-20% increase in TX/RX range. The "5000 Trucker" aerial would mean you can keep the same large mag-mount.

You could alway just pop a Springer on it if you're doing a bit of proper off-roading where there's a chance the aerial may hit overhanging branches.

I bought a reasonably tidy, non-working Major M588 just for the bracket on it, but it turns out it does seem to work but someone's been messing and the channels are confusing due to all 4 modified switches I think! Without sticking a frequency counter on it, I cant find where it's TX'ing half the time.
It's one for the "Nick Pile" I reckon to have hi/mid/lo and UKFM stuck inside it and I'll do a quick paint job on the front outside during the summer.

I also bought an almost mint Midland Portapak that just needs an aerial clip/holder replacement of some kind sorting. Considering the cases are fetching £50 alone, £50 for the whole thing wasn't too bad. I had to send another one back last week so this makes up for it.

Plus...the "free" Astatic 575-M6 mic' I got with 2x Harrier CBX's works nicely and cleaned up well, so I've just bought a new sticker for the front of it to match its version (writing on the chamfered slot edges). The original one had gone completely blank and white. It'll probably end up on auction on ebay to pay a few bills.

Cheers, The Collector: sound advice indeed.

A new aerial is certainly in my future!

I've gone and bought a Cobra 148F  Not the initial half-knackered one that sold on ebay though, the other one that's actually almost mint and seems to work okay (not that I really know what I'm doing with it!) Oh, the meter bulb's gone... dammit, but that's about all. It's boxed but missing its manual.
It won't really have cost me anything shortly due to a little windfall (and also selling my body behind Rackham's... remember them???).

Now I've got a dilemma. Does it get pride of place on the shelving, or shall I stick with the Fidelity 1000 that's currently there? ;)

Well, that's different! Looks like quite a bit of work has gone into that.

I once thought about fitting a Fidelity 1000 board inside a Fidelity Homebase... ;)

Yeah, tidy-looking radio that is Edd.
What was the damage on that wallet-wise then may I ask?

I’m busy with my jd custom still and this is actually
A v6 6900 in this so I’ve ordered a v7 to fit when I
Get time. The v7 is a huge step over the v6 so worth
A few hours to fit etc.
