Yaesu FT-990 Power Button.

Post by Tim »

I have a Yaesu FT-990 with a problem, it will not power on from the push button. Someone has been inside and redirected the feed to somewhere that powers it up via the DC lead when you power on an external PSU. The power button on the radio does not latch and unlatch so I assume that is why it has been bypassed. Also, although it has the 3 pin ‘kettle’ lead socket there is no internal 240V internal PSU, I am not sure weather it never had one fitted of it has been removed.
Anyone any thoughts?

Hello

Looking for a power switch for a Yaesu FT-990, one I have has failed, it doesn’t latch.

Thanks for replies, I have seen both of those but I won't be buying anything from the USA or anywhere else that will have exorbitant import duty and taxes I'm afraid. I think I may be able to get one through Yaesu UK but they want to know the part number.

Take a look here: https://lewandowscy.pl/isostaty-(wlaczniki)-rtv.html
Maybe one of those would fit.

There were no pictures on your previous link. Not sure that any of those would be compatible but thanks all the same.

This switch is no longer available from Yaesu, not surprised, but the button for it is. So, it looks like I’ll have to find a good used one or improvise, after all, it’s only an on/off switch!
The part number also relates to the FT-1000 so that one uses the same switch. Another radio that uses the same part is the FT-757GX11.

I have now found what I am looking for, an obscure corner of eBay found a listing for 3 of these switches for just over £7 with free shipping for all 3 from China.
