Shortwave random wire unun?
I'm a newbie to shortwave listening, Hams and broadcasters. I have radio with a 3.5mm antenna socket, from which I run coax attached to random wire strung up indoors. Would an unun help if it were placed between the feeder coax and the random wire antenna? What difference could I expect? Would I need to ground the unun?

No
The unun just shows the transceiver a close to 50ohm match for a random length wire to transmit on.
Well a quick way to answer.

So an unun is only necessary for transmission?
