Help with my baofeng UV 9r plus

Could body tell me if it is possible to turn off the speeker on the unit, when I am using a covert head set.
Is This possible?

Are you using the earpiece that came with your Baofeng? Mine automatically cuts off the speaker when you plug it in.

I purchased one from the internet, a d I don't think it's a genuine part! Do you know any good online shops? I live in the Highlands and there isn't much here. Gutted that Maplin closed.

I've been away from radio for years and all the places I used to use have gone along with Maplins. I just buy stuff on eBay from China and so far it's all been ok.
No doubt there will be some members who can point you in the right direction though..

You can have one of my earpieces if you want, got two that came with my Baofengs but I don't use them.
