What to do with old scanners?

Recently fired my scanners up after years, no emergency services is the biggest downer but generally it's so quiet.
I've got 3 Pro-2006's among other stuff what can I do with them now everything seems to be moving to digital ? Are they pointless or could they be modified/adapted for digital radio?

You could still pipe the audio into your computer and decode the digital pmr stuff

The PRO-2006 can still be used as a scanner in the means of a decoder, by fitting a discriminator tap which will output unfiltered audio to pass to a computer for decoding.

You can use this to decode the digital DMR signals using DSD+ or if you wanted to, you could use PDW or multimon as a pager monitor to log all pager messages on VHF.

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciate it. I'll look into doing the discriminator tap and the programs you mentioned and hopefully get years more life out of my old girls

discriminator tap is a two minute job on the 2006, i use one myself.
DSD+ for decoding and there's more to listen to again.

still no police services though just yet,
although there is a Tetra decoder for SDRSharp but it kills your memory.

Oh and the juicy mobile phone calls when they were analogue
There was trunked radio when I last used my scanner so I understand that but if I decoded the Tetra I still wouldn't be able to listen to emergency services because they use encryption as well?

You are correct, emergency services use encryption and the TETRA demodulator does not descramble the signal.

However you can listen to clear TETRA signals using it and there are surprisingly more than you would expect. Scan around 420 MHZ and 450 MHZ you will find signals.

i did or may still have the decoder, but it's easy to find on the SDR websites..
i never had it working though, or i couldn't find any Tetra to decode..!!

I am not aware as to who is 450.650, however I can confirm 422.6875 is Ferrybridge power station.

450.650MHz is possibly a Prison..
Thanks for the info on Ferrybridge, quite a few power industry sites have been sold Tetra kit.
