Re: magpie autoscan 5000
Not a problem. Have a look around that IC7 pin13 though and see if there is a link to remove / place to put a link.
I'd like to have a look at one of those radios, but they don't have enough SSB on them to really interest me. Besides, my radio life seems to be littered with unfinished projects at the moment.

There's currently a spare or repairs Magpie on Fleabay at the mo, ยฃ20 starting price. It's got no working channel indicator neons, but you can use another rig to find out which channel you're on, and you could try the mod on this rig to see if it changes the default start-up channel?????

Re: magpie autoscan 5000
That is already quite expensive, especially as it is far from a minter.
The box around the channel change buttons is worn off for a start. At least it has its original mic though.

There is no such thing as a Fidelity 1000 which is too good to scrap.

Holy resurrection!!!Otter wrote: โ09 Sep 2010, 21:45I've never seen one of these rigs so I'm guessing.The-General wrote:Old thread that i must dig up,what was the modification that Magpie performed to make the rig goto channel 19 instead of 14 when you turn the rig on? a diode swap or something?? anyone know?? cheers.
Looking at the schematic on CB tricks - look at IC7 and IC8.
The inputs ABCD are preloads. IC8 looks like it does 10s of channels and IC7 looks like 1s.
Looks like IC7 pin 13 should be removed from whatever it's connected to, and connected to ground instead.
Disconnect the wire coming from the Normal/Ch.9 switch where it connects to the board at point 32.
Well, that's my guess. Try it at your risk...
Tim I tried this mod and itโs does start on 19
Only problem is it doesnโt change channels now

Wow, that was fully 10 years ago and I haven't thought about Autoscans since. It looks wrong to me now I look at it again.

Re: magpie autoscan 5000
OK, put it back to standard. Then:
On IC7 isolate pins 3,4, and 13 from their connections.
Connect pins 3 & 4 to +V on pin 16.
Connect pin 13 to ground which is next door on pin 12.

I don't understand why channel 9 is disabled, but I'm glad that it does what you want. I should pick up one of these to play with really.

I looked at the comic book but I couldnโt see why either once Iโd worked out what you said to do
