Marconi 2955 Help

Post by Hotwire »

Good day all,

I have a fairly well taken care of 2955A. I plan on using it to do test/repair/alignment. But.. I failed to recognize the fact that it does NOT facilitate SSB. I do know there is a work around (1kz up or down for LSB or USB and 0% Modulation). Is there anything else I could or should be doing? Any accessories I should look into (attenuators, or cabling)? Also, the N Connector that usually says 75w max as a sticker on it that says 100w Max. I'v never seen this before, has anyone else?

Thanks a ton

Here is a photo of the 100W sticker,

I have a radio (set to 10w) connected to the N connector... and I notice a few things.

- First : the SWR is threw the roof
- Second : The 2955 shows only 9mw
- Lastly : When I do a self test, the audio cracles for a few of the tests.

is my 2955 screwed? or am I just not doing things correctly?

Did you already have a look into the manual?

I've got to be honest - it doesn't sound good. I have a 2965 (not the 2955) and it's pretty much select the right input, select Tx test, connect radio, transmit and measure power etc.

It's been a while since I've used one . Don't these have a self test function ?

Yes I read the manual.

It displays the right Freq when I tx into it. So it's still passing the signal threw, I'm just wondering if I have configured something wrong.

It does have the self test feature. I will have to look deeper into that.

Would suspect the cable between the Macaroni and the radio on test...
From memory the audio crackles during Self Test.

May be a daft question but you pressed the blue button labelled TX before starting your measurement?

self test noises is normal..
on the power and SWR double check the N type connection, they have to be just right..
if mines not just tight enough but not too tight it fails to read.

also if it's been stood a while work the relays a few times, press the N and BNC selector a few times to clean the relay.
lastly, give it time to warm up, 15 minutes usually..
