Do you have an unencrypted tetra system near you? If not it's as good as useless.

It's for TETRA/Airwave, which is being deprecated by the new ESN if/when it ever gets finished. I would have thought most Home Office TETRA systems were probably encrypted, and most civilian users (buses, etc) are now going over to DMR. One of the groups that's involved with delivering ESN (Motorola) also has an agreement to continue TETRA support if it's still needed, so they'll be making a fair bit regardless of whether ESN is ready on time or not. The timetable may be revised again now Huawei are re-subjected to uncertainty.

What do you mean it’s for Tetra
And I know ESN should of totally taken over airwave by Know .
The airwave switch off is well behind schedule

I assumed GSSI is basically TETRAspeak for a talkgroup. So, you might have a bus fleet for York South on one GSSI, North on another GSSI, etc. Rinse and repeat for fire engines, ambulances, whatever. Either way, it's probably a legacy mode now; Nice to have in there but you almost certainly won't hear anything on it...

Airwave is encrypted to the hills.

Most fire brigades handhelds/breathing apparatus are analogue, but some are going over to DMR (allegedly unencrypted, but we will see)

For interoperability the DMR handhelds are analogue as well, in DMR they have a common Colour Code and Talkgroups..
This is so they can support or be supported by another Fire Service, so there is no encryption..
