Mine's a lot tattier than yours mate (the satchel's probably protected it well), but from what I can see, the serial number is 2012, not far away from yours.

I doubt if 2000+ of these ugly brutes were sold. They were more likely "numbered" by just the last 2 digits! ;)

Dave I like the radio it has a vintage look about it . I too struggle to understand why it had the case on the radio inside but I like it.
Sounds like you picked up a little limited number as I never saw one ever in the day.

It is a very strange set up to a point that the speaker is covered 3 times.
I knew they existed but only seen 3 or 4 for sale in the past 20 year's.

It would be interesting to hear from other owners to gauge the amount that was sold.

Wow I am impressed that at least 39 have been sold.

As long as it doesn't collide with the switches and LEDs you'll be okay, apart from it overlapping the sides somewhat :)

I popped into the Toolstation clearance centre in Bridgwater todsy whilst passing and picked up a 2.1Ah battery for only £4.99. If I can be bothered to take the Westward apart one of the days, I'll change the battery.
The other battery I had as a freebie a while back is much too small Ah-wise, looking at Dave's that he kindly pictured.
