bought this 148 mk2 locally, beep disabled,( what do i look for to enable the beep?) uk 40 on ch9 switch and alphas on the tone switch, apparently its been languishing in a shed for years ( i’ve cleaned it up a bit) it came with a ham 4200 base mic which the battery was dated 95, so possibly last used around that time, seems to work reasonably well

If it's a mk2 the orange wire which goes to the hole on the pcb marked "Peep", near the mic socket has probably been cut or removed. Should be easy to reinstate.

The RF meter presets appear to be set way too high. Also the driver bias preset is cranked up full. The connectors on the back are pointless. It may be worth your while sending it off to Nick for a clean up and service.

thanks for the pics Slamjam, looks like mines a different board, it ends with AA and not AB, there’s no beep marked on board, and yes astradyne i think i’ll send it Nicks way and get all this junk out of it and put back to standard, here’s a pic of the board number too, what does it make this then an early mk2 or is it a mk1?

Being a PB-010AA board makes it a very early MK2. The PCB has a slightly different layout to the PB-010AB.

The Peep wire should be the orange wire marked in the photo. But this is off topic. Should be moved to repair forum.

It might be the orange wire with the black tape on it . Remove the tape and see if it's been cut before . If it has then try cutting it again and see if the beep dies .

On the PB010AA disconnect one end of C162 to silence the bleep.
