K40 Antennas on ebay?
As I've been away from the scene for many years and am just in the process of rekindling my affection for CB and radio in general, I've noticed loads of K40 antennas for sale on ebay. Are these copies of the original antenna? They look and are boxed exactly like the original article (or at least as I remember them), but I find it hard to believe that they are still made today.

Re: K40 Antennas on ebay?
Pretty sure they are still available new.
However these days there are a fair few antennas out there which perform better.

Re: K40 Antennas on ebay?
Had a couple k40 back in 80s and I liked them simply because they worked fairly well, mag bases were v strong and the removable top section if you went multi storey parking.
Mine always worked v well, as good as the avanti moonraker too as I had both.
Picked up one incomplete months back ,after a clean I realized top whip was cut short.
Picked up another top whip with the top piece on recently and some copper tube to sleeve between a 7" add on piece of 3mm dia to the top so I can repair short whip.
Picked up another minus whip too so now I have 3 ,2 with mag bases one boot mount.
Would I buy one new ? Not particularly at those prices and considering performance against a sirio 3000,&4000 again k40 looses out.
But I do like them or I wouldn't have took these 3.
If you need one look used, check around the top chrome cone piece that secures whip where it sits in plastic top piece the plastic just bellow are often cracked I imagine from whip action.
Ajusting swr was as easy as I remember and v v low .
Maybe tbey have a bit of a reputation still kudos from the 80s,they looked the part with that big coil casing
Still love them but their not all that I'm sure

Re: K40 Antennas on ebay?
@Mudslinger, Yeh I was always of the opinion that an antenna had to be bigger and higher.
@original45, I never knew anyone that had one but they always seemed to have a good reputation.
I've just been doing a bit of gardening and have just dug out the remains of my old Mighty Magnum Mk2 (Its been hanging around the garden since around 86/87!). Everything except the bottom section which I definitely had but God only knows where that's gone. I can feel a bit of homebrew coming on if I get the time.
I'll post a pic of the remains of it when I figure out how to post pics.

Re: K40 Antennas on ebay?
One of K40's famous statements is that they're made with the same processing, materials and workmanship (albeit automated as there's less likelihood of any differences) as they've been since day one.
They're good, well-made aerials, but as said above, there are better ones that are a fair bit cheaper nowadays. My only gripe with them was the badly swinging parallel whips, instead of them perhaps being tapered.
I had one for ages that I'd had since 81-ish, but always prefered the Tagra t40 which looks almost identical, but had a tapered whip and a more secure locking collar system. I bought one a few years back for old-times sake.

Re: K40 Antennas on ebay?
There was a new boxed K40 on ebay last night for £30 plus a fiver postage. I thought about it for a few minutes before deciding not to. The whip could have been coiled in a tight circle for posting that out too as the whip was going to be given if collected instead due to its length.

I've got 2 , plus the mag mount , and 3 or so whips cut to various lengths depending on what band I'm using .

See if you can make out the one on the left. Possibly K40 or AS (Antenna Specialists) Scorpion. Others look like standard AS-type grey coils:
