The one I have has the 'D' shaped shaft... what I mean when I say indented is does it click when rotated like an original channel selector does, as the one I have just spins/rotates freely no indent/clicks.

The Yaesu FT747GX used a rotary soft click encoder for VFO control, I have no idea if it would work bought it might be worth looking at maybe?
I replaced one in mine many years ago, quite a simple small device.

Appreciate the info I'll have a look see if I can find a pic or two of one!

PeterA wrote: 27 Mar 2019, 00:43 Appreciate the offer but it needs a rotary encoder, that I do know... as you have a working one there is it indented like an original chanel selector... but not as coarse/clunky though?
I bought some from China for my Shogun .

The shaft was different , but I sripped it down and just used my original one with the new encoder section . Works like new .

It would be alot easier if I had the original to go from... but when I got this one, way back when... it had been robbed of various parts including the channel selector/encoder. {bnghd}

I'll see if I can work out the 3 wires and try the one I have... if it doesn't work I'll get one thats indented (not sure thats the right term) ??

Appreciate the info though!

Best to wait till Gareth (Queball) gets home and can maybe take some pictures . I would have thought that this part would have been pretty easy to source .

I've spent some time trying to find an original one, but no luck... which is not surprising really due to the nature of the part.

Yep, hopefully Gareth will be kind enough to grab some pics of the one in his!

No the encoder does not click on my MkV. It spins and rotates freely. Has no clicking sound at all when rotating. A good photo of the complete unit will probably be on the Cobraworkshopz site.

Hi Pete,

I did send you a message asking about parts etc when I first posted here... but didn't hear back from you.

Appreciate the info...

No chance of finding/getting an original one then! :(

Am I right in thinking the encoder simply uses the ground to pulse the up down frequency change?

Hi Pete.

What exactly is wrong with the encoder ? Why don't you open it and try repairing it? If it's bust you've got nothing to lose.
