Kenwood TS 870 and Panadapter

Post by dubo2319 »

Hi All
Did any one had a chance to have this done with Kenwood TS 870?, there is an only little information on the Internet with all expensive SDR receivers.

I mean if any of the cheap SDR receivers can be used for this connected to the IF output of the radio?

For example this one:

Thank you.

Hi All

This is a small update.

Yesterday I have connected this small RTL dongle (link below) to my laptop and I have used the HDSDR free software to run the dongle.

http://www.essexham.co.uk/news/realtek- ... ounds.html

Antenna for the dongle was connected to the EXT RX OUT (sharing the antenna) on the back of the KENWOOD TS 870 and this worked nicely I was able to see activity on the waterfall starting from 24Mhz.

Now I am waiting for the USB to Serial cable to arrive and see I if I will be able to change the modes and frequencies through the HDSDR in my radio.

I will post the updates soon.

I am very interested in how you get on with this so keep me informed.

Haven't had much chance to get on my 870 of late but hoping to soon.

Hello Guys

This is a promised update.
I can confirm that all can be controlled through the HDSDR.
Ham Radio Deluxe needs to be "ON" in the background, and there is a option that needs to be selected in HDSDR to have both of them synchronised.
I will post the video soon as I can showing all this working.

Looks great and seems to be working well. Would have like to have seen it working on a busier band such as 20 or 40 mtrs though but I know these dongles only cover down to 24MHz.
