Re: Server converted power supplys.
Neutrik SpeakON connectors are quite nice for power supplies. Really solid, latching and good for 30A+

Re: Server converted power supplys.
Fixing screws, through the board, solder the head to one side of the board and bolt the block to the other.

LOL, well if you hadn't wasted all that time de-soldering those blade connectors you could have wedged some fat cables in them then soldered them in place!sec1223 wrote:and how the hell do i connect them to that board?

Re: Server converted power supplys.
the blades are very close together and surrounded by plastic so that idea is out of the window.kr0ne wrote:LOL, well if you hadn't wasted all that time de-soldering those blade connectors you could have wedged some fat cables in them then soldered them in place!sec1223 wrote:and how the hell do i connect them to that board?

Re: Server converted power supplys.
Where ever possible i like to take the voltages off the board to a more practical connect disconnect system. If it means direct wire solder i do that, then take the wires or cable to my posts or terminals. I think terminal directly to the pcb can become weak with connecting and unconnecting. You can normally always find a positon to site some output terminals. The only time i terminated from the pcb was on a blade interface server, the pads where gold and the pcb was high quality grp, so it made a sound base to mount 4 mm posts, which can handle plus 25 amps easily.

Re: Server converted power supplys.
Now now, that's not very polite is it...
I suggest you go and have a search around the 'net for pictures of converted supplies, almost all the pics that show the connector style you had show soldered connections.
Next time, perhaps before you rush in you should do some research.

Re: Server converted power supplys.
thats what i intend doing but once its connected, it wont be getting disconnected very much at all and thats why i think the soldeed block terminal type connector will do.sureshot wrote: The only time i terminated from the pcb was on a blade interface server, the pads where gold and the pcb was high quality grp, so it made a sound base to mount 4 mm posts, which can handle plus 25 amps easily.

Re: Server converted power supplys.
I've done two of these conversion now, one I used busbar: http://www.screwfix.com/p/mk-20-module- ... kpid=72378
The other I did the cheap way.
Both work and have had 50amps off the back of them no problems
The busbar method I had removed the connector like you did, didn't fancy drilling through the board, couldn't be sure it's not multilayered.
I don't have a picture of the busbar version since my mate has the PSU now. Both are intended to be mounted in an ABS box so pretty is not a consideration.
Hope that may help?
