Or just use a mixer with a phantom supply. Less faffing about. Key it with a foot switch. Plus the mixer will give you an eq to play with

You could try the Yinger brand of BM-800. That requires phantom power and is available on the Bay of E for £12.87 delivered at the moment.Irishman1127 wrote:Anyone know for definite where I can find the Phantom powered on on the Bay?

Re: Brand new studio mics for under £20!!
Just off the radio with a friend in 68 Div and he has his NON BATTERY BM 800 look alike mic wired direct to his ICOM 735 WITHOUT the need for a phantom power supply.
He is going to send me (by email) his flowchart of how he has done this, so there might be hope for users out there with the NONE 1.5v ones.
And I will post it up here for info.

It will work but not as it should as it wont be operating at line level as it should. Like using a CB powermic with no battery really. You wont get the best from it running it non powered like that...

IIRC, on a standard 8-pin Foster mic plug wired for Icom, the radio outputs +8V DC to Pin 2. That is how he is getting the mic to work on his Icom IC-735.

There is the answer Mr 1127. Simples really.
These mics take owt from 1.5 to 48(?)v. So after talking to him at length last night he is indeed getting the full benefit from the mic as we played with the settings for a good 30 mins.
So all is not lost if one of your mic pins puts out +8v. Just make sure that the mic etc is wired the right way.
He also has an extensive range of other "Studio" mics.

Re: Brand new studio mics for under £20!!
The same goes for many Yaesu radios. Pin 2 of the mic socket on the radio's front panel supplies +5V DC. This is really the lowest voltage you can get away with for the phantom power variants and even then you will probably find you need to really crank your mic gain up far higher than usual to get satisfactory performance.

Re: Brand new studio mics for under £20!!
That was my point. Full phantom voltage.... Full performance. It might be 42v but it's very low current
