Re: 446 Repeater - Offset?
I'd have input on 434 and output on 446 - less likely to get noticed by fussy hams who would complain

Re: 446 Repeater - Offset?
I'd be very surprised if that worked. Even with a large offset like that, the average PMR446 radio would de-sense badly with a 433 MHz radio TX'ing nearby.superdave wrote:Input on 446 output on 433 simples. Re: 446 Repeater - Offset?
I tried it, and it worked locally, but to be fair, I did only try it around the house.
I had the input being a scanner with the antenna my mobile magmount, and the transmitter being a 446 radio set to vox and connected to the scanner's 3.5mm audio out port. Since the antenna is sort of far away (a few meters) I think theoretically it should work at longer distances than if they were sitting right next to each other. And I could also use a long audio cable to put the scanner further away from the transmitting 446 radio.

Re: 446 Repeater - Offset?
I tried the repeater idea using 434.775 input with a 446.09375 output and it worked perfect.

But did you try it from a distance?

Thats interesting. I'm planning to test the idea further when I can go out to do so.

Re: 446 Repeater - Offset?
Right, I just tried it today. It desensitized the receiver so much that it just would not work over long distances. When I held the radio in the place of the antenna, I could hear them perfectly, with what you call full quieting (I think that's the term), but when they went through the repeater, you would hear it key up and the signal just vanish on the receiving radio. So all you ended up hearing was the squelch.

Re: 446 Repeater - Offset?
Yeah, but I can see that it desensitizes badly on my scanner. It's more difficult to use an actual radio that transmits too, but I could try it if I bought another adapter to convert 2.5mm to 3.5mm for the audio.

But most scanners have wide front-ends and may not be suitable.

I think you'd want to do it the other way around. Having a free-bander repeater output pop up on the voice section of 70cms is sure to grab the attention of someone..... ;-/
Low power, mobile inputs from handhels on 433 will go relatively un-noticed unless very local to a listening ham station......
