Astatic 1104C - Repair & Overhaul
Hi,
I picked one of these up recently in fair condition. Case & Base are good, battery compartment and cover is good. Has the 41557-00-00 Rev. 6 board internally also looking good.
Stripped it down, gave everything a good clean.
Not so good - Missing 1 slider (they always seem to be), the Mic element has been messed with the internal grill on the element itself has been removed.
Pic's here of what that element should look like: Mine is missing the black grill and the element itself has no marking on it I believe it should say MC 576-1 or MC 576-2.
As these are essentially the Astatic teardrop in desk mic form the elements are not the easiest to find new or second hand. There are however aftermarket elements available
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/W2ENY-HiFi-e ... Swf2ZdoHdY
Has anyone got any background or knowledge on these mic's and opinion on function of the aftermarket element.
The worse case scenario for the slider is a friend doing a rough 3-D print replacement for it and I salvage a teardrop mic element.
Any help or suggestions relating to the Astatic 1104C would be very grateful.

I've used those aftermarket elements in various D-104 base mics over the years with great success. Easy to fit, and actually improves the audio.

That's good to know Beamer320i, I'll hold out to see if I can acquire NOS or pulled MC 576-1/2 first but if not that will probably be an option.beamer320i wrote: ↑16 Dec 2019, 15:54 I've used those aftermarket elements in various D-104 base mics over the years with great success. Thanks to Edd200sx for hunting about to find one he had. I'll give it a go when it arrives and then that leaves the slider.
Thanks again everyone.

Re: Astatic 1104C - Repair & Overhaul
Just wanted to round this thread off.
Well i finally got round to digging the 1104C out and fitting the Element Edd200sx supplied. Everything working a treat with the element. Also, manged to return the not so white PTT & Lock back to white again.
One issue however and issue is a strong word as i'm liable never to use it, the Lock does not keep it in locked position. So for tonight i'm not opening it again but would I be correct in assuming I have a lazy spring on the internal ptt?
As always any help much appreciated.

Or the locking latch is worn. Not sure if the locking PTT on that one has an incorporated lock on-lock off micro switch or a latch mechanism, if it's a lock on/off switch there may be nothing you can do to repair it.

Re: Astatic 1104C - Repair & Overhaul
Evening Tim, Its just a simple latch, doesn't look worn and you do have to press fully down to trip the PTT without the lock. I'll have a look tomorrow at the spring but to be honest its fine and I don't do long over anyway, just to get it as it was intended so to speak.
I was getting someone to make me the other slider but they moved to the USA and I'm out of people who own a 3d Printer. That's also not that important as i have set the volume and used the existing slider for tone only.

I see what you mean by the missing slider, an odd shape to replicate, look on eBay USA, someone may have a replacement listed, worth a look.

Re: Astatic 1104C - Repair & Overhaul
Old topic I know, but my first prototypes of the 3D printed Astatic 1104c sliders are ready. Next step is to check if they match.
