Personally I'm against all antenna tuners. I always had my antennas tuned to desired band and I suggest to do the same.
Why you think you need a tuner?

My Sirio 1/2 wave SWR goes a little too high on the upper frequencies of use when it rains, and I'm not too happy using an amplifier when like this.

When dry, the SWR is good and in the range of 1.1:1 to 1.4:1 from Mid 1 to UK 40. When it rains, I see just under 1.1:1 on Midband 1, to 2.1:1 on UK 40.

I've heard a few complaints about this Sirio Antenna SWR changing dramatically in the rain, and even though I've mitigated water ingress by using self amalgamating tape, etc', it still happens.

Can the capacitors be upgraded in these small ATUs in general ?

My main shack ATU is a Palstar AT2K , but I have a couple of small ones , including one of these TM999s which I could upgrade.

It's definitely possible, but without physically looking inside one it's difficult to know what dimensions "variable air Capacitor" would fit.

Something like this, if it can be retrofitted, would allow substantially more power than the cheap variable Capacitor's that are used in stock form.

There is plenty or room inside, those should fit.
