Cheapest new radio is Xiegu G1M and it fits your budet.
Next I recommend to buy is Xiegu G90 which is around £400
Second hand would be Icom 718 but way over your budget.

Save more cash and I would suggest a Yaesu ft450d with variable power and a built in atu or a Kenwood 570d. Both can be picked up for around £400 on the secondhand market.

I had an Icom IC-735 for your budget a few years back, great SSB radio but FM's a bit like a barn door.
The perfect face for radio.

Unmolested Yaesu 757 GX OR GXII can be had for a little more than £250. Both good radios and lots of scope with them.
The 747 with FM module can also be a god shout and they do come in on your current budget and if sound you'll sell it for the same if you upgrade.

Thanks for the advice, I got my self a ft-767gx with the 2m, 70cm and the 6m modules with it.
Thought that this would be a good all in one rig.

Well you certainly went for the fully loaded of its time version, well done. I still have my GXII I purchased back in naughtiest I think. Bought the audio accessories to do some PC stuff wspr etc.

Enjoy it and if you get a hankering for something else I'm sure you'll do well on resale.

Hit us with some pics if you can, a fully loaded 767 from the back is a wonderful sight :D

As requested.

I have had a look to see if the ctcss is fitted, but it isn't.
However I have found a company that remakes them and have ordered one so that will be another option fitted
