Yaesu ft890 power fault

Post by mickymcd »

Hi all I sold a ft890 radio its new owner had a power cut in his house radio was on at the time once power was reapplied the radio and psu were still switched on now the radio doesn't power up fully no display or sound only the meter light is working.Hes tried the usual checked fuses in powerlead changed psu incase it was issue made sure no switches are depressed that shouldn't be etc.Ive had surge issues after a power cut in the past which have taken pc psu's out and even lcd tellys I'm wondering Is there a internal fuse on this radio or anything easy to check before he goes down a radio engineer to check and repair ? thx

This radio is probably a bit too new, but in the good old days of steam the meter lamps also acted as fuses, if they died then other things died too. There should be a 13.8v output on the back of those to power other goodies, if that meters okay then chances are the PSU has survived.

FT890 is DC powered, so no rectifier, and he;s changed the PSU to eliminate it.
