Changing FT-707 crystals
Hi All .
The 4 10/11m crystals in my FT-707 weren't in the right order . Also , the 28.5 was missing completely . I've now put them in the correct order and installed a 28.5 . I've noticed that there's a little tuning slug next to each crystal . Do they need to be adjusted at all ? I'm looking in the service manual , but I can't see them mentioned anywhere .
Any help would be , as usual , greatly appreciated .
Sammy

Re: Changing FT-707 crystals
I have had no experience with the 707 apart from repairing a PA unit where the bias voltage regulator had gone so it was distorted on SSB, But i have changed [non matching yaesu] xtals in a 101zd once and i didnt have to tune anything.

To confirm, no tuning on the band crystals needed

Depends on if it's on frequency or not.

Re: Changing FT-707 crystals
Admiral is quite right. swapping crystals is usually painless, but the trimmers were always there just to pull them one way or the other. The problem was when you got a crystal that was cut slightly wrong. Changes in the capacitance of the circuit could make them oscillate differently to the way the cutting machine was aligned, so new crystals often were pretty lacking in accuracy - needing the trimmer. Your one appears to be cut correctly, so doesn't need tweaking.

Re: Changing FT-707 crystals
In most cases it dosnt really matter if the crystal is off or not as the display on the front is what the xtal is producing, Whatever you tune the VFO too that is what freq your on.

Re: Changing FT-707 crystals
I've never used a 707, I guess it's whether you can adjust the manual tuning scale, or probably more important, does anyone under 50 actually look at it?

Re: Changing FT-707 crystals
There is a trimmer (TC01) on the corner of the counter pcb, this alters what the display shows, had to retune a few of these on FT-107's / 101ZD's in the past as i have had a few that have displayed the wrong frequency even though the radio itself is on frequency.Admiral wrote:I've never used a 707, I guess it's whether you can adjust the manual tuning scale, or probably more important
