Handsfree System - Yaesu FT-7900

Post by M6UCW »

I've got a Yaesu FT-7900 in my car and not finding it easy to use the mic and get through traffic safely. What decent hands free options are there available? I have thought of the system that includes a mic that goes by the sun visor and ptt button on the gear lever however to run the mic cable I'd have to go under the side panels and they contain airbags so I'm not keen to do this type of job myself.

I haven't seen any with the plug type that fits the FT-7900 as well as not being able to find how to activate the VOX function.
I did a search of the PDF manual as well as using Google with no luck.
I have found a mic extension with a 8 pin plug so now to find a headset (if you have any links please send them).

There was an article in this months RadCom of a Bluetooth kit called RigBlaster Blue, its meant to link your rig to a PC over Bluetooth but can be used with Bluetooth Headsets for TX & RX

Not a bad looking system but costs nearly the same as my radio. I've emailed Yaesu (not sure how long it would take to get a reply if any) to see what they suggest. Ideally a headset system that has the same plug as the radio or 8 pins then I just have to get the extension.

I can highly recommend this seller. He will stick the right plug on for you.

Use one on both my 8800 and 8900.

Anybody know of any other options? Neither of these items appear to be available now.

Thanks

He's still selling them http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181686183667

Works brilliantly with my 7900. Several locals also use them with other radios and they work great

I made my own a long while back, used a PC headset with a flexi boom mic and a damaged Yaesu mic as donors. Not Bluetooth granted but it cost me nothing and worked great.
