Icom ICB-1050 10 Meter mod

Post by StormShadow » 16 Apr 2014, 23:21

Hi I have an old Icom ICB-1050 that I want to modify to use on 10 meters FM.
I know these radios are very easy to convert for 10 meters, however I was just wondering if anybody had some instructions on how to do this modification?

Step by step instructions would be ideal. If anybody knew of a good website link that could help me out I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks.

One way is to swap the two xtals x201 and x202
Change the receive crystal x201 to 18.205MHz
Change the transmit crystal x202 to 18.660MHz
If you wanted to add the 100KHz repeater shift, you could add a 3rd xtal of 18.560MHz for X202 and make it switchable

Or you can just alter the logic on the PLL chip as per site below.

Obviously you still have to tune up the radio and set the VCO for the right frequency etc

Hope that helps..

Just a small note.

From memory I think the mod that doesn't use swapping he crystals gives some funny channels on the Icom.

Some channels are repeats, and I think a few channels are just above 29.700Mhz,

It's about 30 years ago since I did it, so my memory might be a bit hazy ;-)

I've now got 3 on 10 meters one being a JWR but basically the same as the other Icom 1050's.

I've done the 10KHz repeater shift and I'm thinking about adding a ctcss tone board. I have a ctcss tone board that I got out of a Tait T500 low band radio that I'm thinking about adding to the Icom 1050.
