Just set up a ssb in my pickup a couple months ago , then put a stryker 955 in my shop with a 1/2 wave, then set up a rig like mine in my buddys shop one town north of me. Now I'm crash coursing the radio thing and most likely end up with a ham license in the next month or so. Today after setting up my buddy's radio I was trying to evaluate our signals and rather than a strong localized CB connection, I ended up skipping all over the east US on CB AM. I'm like, damn, weather and solar activity clearly are a significant factor in local communication. My transmission intended for my buddy 10 miles up the road got scattered for 500 miles. Anyway, I came here to pick brains, I'm a technical kind of guy so this is right up my alley, but I'm a bit surprised how I'm seeming to get hooked into this as a hobby.
