Repeaters

Post by Smoggie1979 » 25 Nov 2019, 13:02

What exactly are Repeaters? I'm guessing these are the noises i'm picking up in the 400's MHZ? Sounds like a running engine.Must be people talking & these Repeaters act like a Jammer like on Shortwave.

Not quite. Repeaters are just relay stations that re-broadcast radio transmissions. The noise you can hear are the digital ones and your radio only receives analogue so it will sound like interference. Most transmissions these days are digital, or going that way, including ham radio, so equipment upgrade is required if you want to hear more. Or if you're technically inclined, try having a play with RTL dongles and SDR software, with some fiddling and fettling you can receive digital stuff on your PC for about a fiver.
The perfect face for radio.
