PMR446 Analogue and Digital Frequency list

Post by MrWeetabix »

From January 1st, 2018 the frequency band 446.1- 446.2 MHz was designated for use by PMR446 licence free radios across Europe in line with Harmonised European Standards EN 300 296-2, EN 300 113-2 and EN 301 166-2.

The new frequencies, which follow ECC Decision (15)05, create greater capacity by extending the assigned frequency spectrum for digital and analogue equipment to 446.0 - 446.2 MHz with a channel plan based on 6.25 kHz (digital) and 12.5 kHz (analogue) spacing where the lowest carrier frequencies are 446.003125 MHz and 446.00625 MHz respectively.

Channels 9 - 16 analogue are only just starting to fill up around here, even though it's been over 2 years since they were made legal. Not just with DX'ers either just 'ordinary' folk by the sounds of it, you know the sort of thing, people out with their kids or 'Bill put the kettle on' type comms.

I see ARGOS are selling a 4 pack of Motorola T82 16 channel radios that actually use the full 16 channel allocation rather than just the first 8 frequencies but with different CTCSS/DCS tones.

Trouble is at £224.99 I couldn't find anyone amongst my workmates in the office who would be willing to pay that sort of money for them, they said they would rather use their mobiles

I can only assume that people must be using 'illegal' Baofengs and the like, programmed to 446 channels 9 - 16 or maybe my colleagues are just tight, or maybe it's just an image thing, you know, 'walkie talkies' are for kids and mobile phones are for adults?

What is the activity like around your way on the 'new' channels 9 - 16?

I actually posted this because I didnt know about the additional 8 analogue and 8 Digital ones! Last I heard was they were given the 8 digital ones!

Around here some of the local muppets have moved off the UK40 and now have their own little muppet channel on ch07 analogue. I think they're all using amateur radios, like 857s or 706s etc. apart from not I am yet to hear any activity on the additional 8 analogue channels and I have a commanding location between two big cities and smaller towns. The price is prohibitive. Most people will buy a set of Baefengs from ebay and never change the stock frequencies they come from. I have heard kids using those around here for sure.

Yes its the same around here with the Baofengs. The BF-888 seems very popular and you can pick up a pair for less than 20 quid on fleabay and as you stated most just use the default frequencies.

There is a farm near me that uses the Baofeng BF-888's and they use channel 8 (462.825 MHz). The 2 people you here the most are a man and a woman who are obviously a married couple as they argue constantly, it's hilarious!

It's definitely worthwhile monitoring the default Baofeng BF-888 frequencies as they are very popular throughout the UK.

Incase anyone doesn't yet have them I have posted the frequencies that they come programmed with below:

You beat me to posting those yeah

the TS2000 doesnt RX that high up the band so cant program those in for casual RXing, but I have an 888 on my desk which I have heard the local kids on. I may pop the freqs into the UV-3R I have and set that to scan mode, though its not connected to any external antenna.

I bought a few 888s years back and reprogrammed them. Great for use when we'd take the kids out for the day and such. Came in handy at the last live running day down at Bruntingthorpoe too..... I miss those days! ha
